Autumnal Berries

29/01/2010

Pollinated flowers produce fruit. The bright red berries of the Rowan tree are its fruit and are among the first to appear indicating

that summer is coming to an end and autumn is here.

The Rowan tree (Sorbus aucuparia) is also called the Mountain Ash as it can grow high in the mountains where the soil is poor.

Keep an eye out for its berries in August and enter them on the maps here on Nature's Calendar Ireland.
